Invitations

Jarach Gallery "Some When"

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

In September of 2008 Jarach asked us to design the invitation for “Somewhen”, a collective exhibition curated by Daniele De Luigi. The exhibition combined the work of different photographers, under the common brief “Somewhen”, a term that doesn’t literally exist in the english language, formed by joining the words “somewhere” and “when”. The outcome means a place in a time. As a matter of fact every work reflects upon the future, the time and the way the man is carrying on the planet.

The unfolded invitation shows “swohmeen”, a further word, that develops this play of neologisms. The folded invitation instead, according to the point of view of the reader, creates the words “some” and “when”. The back shows the textus receptus of Daniele De Luigi, that explains the interpretation of the brief by each photographer. Here you can see the maquette we did to show the project the client.

The typographic composition was applied to each part of the sign system of the gallery. Shown below is the entrance. (the logo in the upper right side of the entrance was preexisting)

Ninth Circuito Off

Monday, September 1st, 2008

In the spring of 2008 the Circuito Off Short Film festival asked us to design all of the material for the new edition of the festival. In those days we met Alessandro Zuek Simonetti, New York based photographer, that impressed us with his extremely personal and emotional research.

Working on the concept with Alessandro, we decided to think about Venice, the city where the festival is hosted. According to the growing debate about the future of the city, always more and more committed to the tourism, we decided to photograph fake tourists in the Las Vegas fake Venezia (”fake” as tourist of a fake city), playing with ambiguity. A kind of “find the mistake” quiz.

We wrote some slogans to emphasize the message and play with it. We referred, exasperating, to the turistical messages and we applied them to all the material, from invitations, to posters and bags.
A lot of people still think that the pictures have something strange, and haven’t recognize the real location yet. Shown below some materials we’ve designed: the invitation for the press conference and a postcard for the parties. Besides those, we designed: the shopper, the Short Film Market catalogue , the set of the island (here, here , here and here ), the awards’s design, the t-shirt, the badges. Here instead, a bootleg tshirt that Cristiano Spiller send us.

Mona Kuhn "Evidence"

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

In the Spring of 2008 the Jarach Gallery asked us to design an invitation card for the personal exhibition of Mona Kuhn, a Brazilian born California based photographer. The exhibition title was “Evidence”, because it was about a project she’s developing with portraits of naked people: the pictures show youth of a nature comunitiy on the French coast. Some pictures are shown here. We designed an embossed invitation card with a play between the title “Evidence” and the hard-reading embossed print. As in the photography world the light and the shades create the shapes.

Havaianas “Survival Kit”

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

In the Autumn of 2007 Havaianas Italia presented the collection for the summer of 2008 at a press conference in Milano. For this meeting they needed a press release folder to hold the press release, a small catalogue and a dvd with the pictures in hi-resolution for the magazines. In accordance with their products, they chose a greengrocer of Milano as location for the meeting. We tried to put ourselves in the the shoes of journalist that would receive the umpteenth invitation to take part in the umpteenth press conference, to receive the umpteenth promotional material. Identifying ourselves with them, we felt the demand to create something able to play with irony with their situation, to hit their curiosity and to make people think about the enormous quantity of promotional stuff produced everyday.

We designed a survival kit that holds the necessary things to face the effort of these conferences. The work’s title, according to our project, was “Survival Kit for Happenings” but probably the Marketing needs subdued irony and concept of the project, transforming the title into “Survival Kit for Havaianas events”. The project is made by:

  1. A packaging, a silk screen printed paper envelope, closed with a red tack
  2. A placemat hiding inside a press release
  3. A paper napkin
  4. A plastic knife
  5. A plastic glass
  6. A coaster containing a cd-rom with images
  7. A drinking straw

At the event they offered also a milkshake to drink with the tools of the survival kit. We also designed a 10×15 cm postcard with the pattern of the placemat. The coaster, in our project, had a different design.

Italian Short Film Corner

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

IIn the autumn of 2007 Italian short film Festivals Union asked us to design the printed matter for the Italian Short Film Corner, a stand they held at the Clermont Ferrand Festival, in France.

We were asked to design:

  1. A simple visual identity of this stand
  2. A folder with the informations about the festivals in three different languages
  3. An invitation postcard
  4. An invitation for the “Italian Party”, a party organized by the Union of Festivals to promote the event, and a pass system to identify who has the original invitation

We decided to represent the italian corner researching a non obvious and expected graphic play: we designed a system of folding an diagonal cuts, that creates a red and a green conrner, according to the point of view of the reader. With the same concept we realized the folder and the postcard. For the party we designed a pin, because it was the most personal and curious way to point out the pass at the entrance.

Havaianas "Wash Your feet"

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

In the the Summer of 2006 Havaianas Italia ask us to create a video to present their slippers during night events sponsorized by the brand. To give personality to the slippers, to create a link between the people and this simple rubber object (extremely in vogue during those super hot days!), we created the project “Wash Your Feet. Havaians were transformed into a group of characters, with different personalities, kicking against dirty humans feet, pretending respect! This concept was made into a video and also into a special invitation for the night events that accompanied the video projection.

The Invitation “Wash Your Feet”
We were asked to design a postacard to invite people to the events. To raise the curiosity of the public we designed a funny packaging for the invitation: a paper envelope within a bar of soap and a little information card about the event. The envelope was closed by an adhesive label saying “wash your feet”. A curiosity: The biggest trouble of this projects was to find anonymous bars of soap: without logotypes impressed on them and without color.

The “Wash Your Feet” video
We are not a video maker, and not even directors. That’s why we decided to minimize the direction using a fixed shot, an alogene lamp with a dimmer (to simulate a stroboscopic light-effect), a spread page of Wallpaper magazine , bought by chance the same morning of the shooting, within a Havaianas commercial (to simulate an official brand background). To represent the eterogenous target we created differents characters, with peculiar face expression, dimensions and colours waving funny protest signs.
