Ninth Circuito Off

Monday, September 1st, 2008

In the spring of 2008 the Circuito Off Short Film festival asked us to design all of the material for the new edition of the festival. In those days we met Alessandro Zuek Simonetti, New York based photographer, that impressed us with his extremely personal and emotional research.

Working on the concept with Alessandro, we decided to think about Venice, the city where the festival is hosted. According to the growing debate about the future of the city, always more and more committed to the tourism, we decided to photograph fake tourists in the Las Vegas fake Venezia (”fake” as tourist of a fake city), playing with ambiguity. A kind of “find the mistake” quiz.

We wrote some slogans to emphasize the message and play with it. We referred, exasperating, to the turistical messages and we applied them to all the material, from invitations, to posters and bags.
A lot of people still think that the pictures have something strange, and haven’t recognize the real location yet. Shown below some materials we’ve designed: the invitation for the press conference and a postcard for the parties. Besides those, we designed: the shopper, the Short Film Market catalogue , the set of the island (here, here , here and here ), the awards’s design, the t-shirt, the badges. Here instead, a bootleg tshirt that Cristiano Spiller send us.

Je t'aime encore

Friday, June 6th, 2008

In the may of 2008 Pulse and Asu asked us to design the new material for the SSF. We achieved our purpose: people were calling festival with the name “je t’aime”, and asking informations about the new edition of “je t’aime”. We decided therefore to create a new expectation, even if keeping the concept of the previous year, to consolidate the gained identity and recognizablity. The new question was: what happened to that love story? The answer was that they were still in love. Still, still, still and still. To express this theme we designed a pattern to use on each material.

The folder
Knowing the interesting editorial activity of the festival’s organizers, we designed a simple folder, to join a small book with the informations about the musicians and a poster with the artwork. In this way people can appreciate and understand young and unknown musicians. We applied the artwork to all materials, the poster, a t-shirt, a postcard with an excerpt of the calendar. Poster and postcards were used to create the set of the festival, fitting them one above an other.
T-shirts were printed by Giovanni Donadini, that recicled screenprint frame to make his own artworks. A recicled t-shirt is shown here.

Italian Short Film Corner

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

IIn the autumn of 2007 Italian short film Festivals Union asked us to design the printed matter for the Italian Short Film Corner, a stand they held at the Clermont Ferrand Festival, in France.

We were asked to design:

  1. A simple visual identity of this stand
  2. A folder with the informations about the festivals in three different languages
  3. An invitation postcard
  4. An invitation for the “Italian Party”, a party organized by the Union of Festivals to promote the event, and a pass system to identify who has the original invitation

We decided to represent the italian corner researching a non obvious and expected graphic play: we designed a system of folding an diagonal cuts, that creates a red and a green conrner, according to the point of view of the reader. With the same concept we realized the folder and the postcard. For the party we designed a pin, because it was the most personal and curious way to point out the pass at the entrance.

Je t'aime

Friday, June 1st, 2007

In May of 2007 Sergio Pigozzi, of the Pulse project, called us to redesign the identity of SSF (Summer Student Festival). Sergio and his festival are well-known because of their ability to discover the best underground musicians, their extreme quality although budgets are always very low. The quality of the festival program was an inverse proportion to the quality of the communication: the name “Summer Student Festival” resulted anonimous and weak, linked to an university dimension. Therefore we choose to work both on the identity and on the promotion, coining a title able to being the new image of the communication and the new name of the festival.

We wanted to communicate to the city of Padue (an extremely chaotic and problematic city) a concept positive and universal, provocative message: je t’aime. To make it musical, more easy to remember, like a sort of summer-catchphrase (as the discographic industry every year does) we wrote the title four times (as the basic structure of pop music made of 4/4 rhythm):

Je t’aime / Je t’aime / Je t’aime / Je t’aime

All the people saw this love message posted on walls (a sort of remake of is usually written with sprays on walls) and became interested in it: an unique, inedit title, different from the names of other events. For the occasion we created a 50×70 poster with on the back the information about the bands (the activity of Pulse is editorial too, they produce so much written material that a right support is needed) and a postcard with the program and general information.

Third Lago Film Fest

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

In spring 2007 the short film festival Lago Film Fest asked us to design the printed matter of the third edition of the festival. This festival takes place every year on the shore of a small lake on the Vittorio Veneto’s hills. First we designed a folder, made of coloured paper, with the title “Non dimenticare niente, ci vediamo a Lago” (Don’t forget anything, see you at the Lake.): we played with the word “Lago” (Lake) and the name of the event “Lago Film Fest”.
